Thank you for coming back to visit us again! Have you been to our main site, Stitching the Night Away to check out our free cross stitch patterns and cross stitch supplies?
This is my third update on this project ad it’s coming along pretty nicely and he’s looking super cute!
Last year we didn’t have a tree, because well, we live in just under 900 square feet, 6 people, 2 pets, and not a lot of space. The living room barely holds the sofa, chair, and television and the dining room is so small I can’t even put a table in it that will seat all of us. I wasn’t too heavily motivated last year with Brian (hubby) just out of the hospital either, so there wasn’t too much decorating that happened at all.
We made a little effort to put up a few things, but nothing much. Not having a tree somehow made me feel less guilty about not having any presents to put underneath it as well. Sad, but true. I made a last ditch effort last year on Christmas Eve and ran to Rite Aid and bought one thing for each of the boys. They were thrilled to death with those gifts even though there was no tree.
This year we’re going to try a little bit harder. I’ve got one gift bought for each of the boys already, so there will be no running to Rite Aid at the last minute to get a gift in a panic. We also spied a small 4 foot prelit tree that will fit nicely next in the corner of the living room. It’s not our 7 foot big fluffy tree, but it’s a tree and it will make the house feel a little more seasonal. I’m hoping to have this little guy done soon to hang on the tree when we get it.
Here’s the progression so far starting with today’s update :

Oh he’s looking good, Loretta! I’m so excited you’re getting a jump on Christmas this year – awesome!
Wow…that’s not space to have 2 animals in. Love the snowman, very cute.

It’s barely space at all, especially when we moved here from a 1600 sq foot townhouse, and had to downsize, condense, and otherwise go crazy -lol- but that’s the way the cards fell. We were forced to move in a hurry and it’s what was available
Hi,
Read your story, and I have no children, and also complain all the time.
Here you come along, and are doing the best you can, and also have 2 little boys.
When you said that you had to run to Rite Aid and buy them each a gift for Christmas, and how happy they were just for thatt one gift.
I would love to send you some money for your children this year so you can go buy them some gifts.
Here is my name, and e-mail if you want to do so.

Debbie, you are just too kind. I don’t even have words to reply properly to your comment.
Loretta,
I have another idea for you that you can do for the boys for very little money. Write a book for each of them. I don’t know how old they are, but ANY age could appreciate that, and it can be very simple. You don’t have to be a great writer to wow a child, and you can include pictures of them on every page (whether a digital photo printed on plain white paper, or a stick drawing). There could even be no words — each page could be a picture of the child wearing a different hat, or doing different things. For example, ‘Joey’ eating spagetti, Joey sleeping, Joey on a swing. There are some great pre-reading books that can give you inspiration: Tuesday; The Rabbits Are Coming; Cat Boy. Spend a little time looking through books at the library — and plagiarize to your heart’s content, because this will be your book, not something you’re selling or getting graded for
If you know any teachers, you could probably ask them to laminate the pages for you too, and then you can bind the book with ribbon and hole-punching. Those wordless books are actually excellent “reading” training, and kids love them, even after they start reading.
Also, My mom gave a great little gift one year: she found a book at a garage sale for 5 cents (the price was written in sharpie on the front). It was called, “My Grandma is Wonderful.” She went through the book, and everywhere it said Grandma, she X’d that out, and wrote “Wo-Wo” (which is what my son calls her). Then on the last page where it said, “My Grandma/Wo-Wo is wonderful,” she cut her face out of a photograph, and glued it onto the grandma’s picture. My son is now 17, but we’ve still got the book.
The best present for me is being around my family. Most of the year we’re all away from each other, living in different cities. It’s always exciting to go back home and see each other. I miss those times when I was still a kid. It brings back wonderful memories when I read stories like this. Back then my mom & dad would hold a drawing contest during Christmas. Each of us (there were 4 of us) gets to draw something, we’d put it by the tree and the best drawing gets a surprise. Fun, fun times!
Merry Christmas!
