Whether you want to try candle making for a business or a hobby, plain and simple candle making is a blast. I have been making candle for over 10 years.
Over 10 years ago my first daughter was born and I decided to have a home based business making candles. My first candles were horrible.(Shh- Don’t tell anyone, but I tried selling those babies at a craft show) I did not test a thing. I had plain paraffin wax without additives. I bought cheap fragrance oils and I did not have a clue how wicks really worked. But the whole experience was fun and that was all that counted. I was hooked after making my extremely rough candles.
Candle making fulfills my need to experiment with something and also is very relaxing. One thing that appealed to me when I made candles was the whole experimentation process. This kind of wax with this wick and fragrance oil will equal this pillar, container candle or meltie. All the ingredients involved in candle making effects the actually outcome of your candle.
I also enjoy experimenting with candle techniques and styles. You can venture right into your kitchen and pull out simple kitchen tools, for example, a fork or spoon and come up with a cool looking candle. You can create great, unique looking candles without spending a ton of money.
The nice thing is that almost anyone can make candles. There is a method for every level of skill and ability. Candle making is an activity for people of all ages, from kids to seniors. Now my daughter is 11 years old and she helps me pour candles, pillars, and melts.
Start out by making great gifts for your friends and family. You can cater the candle to their tastes by choosing their favorite scent, color or to complement their house. If you make a mistake you can easily melt down the error and start again.
Could this be your next hobby? Give it a try.
A little about me. My name is Dawn Aurora Shaffer and I am the owner of French Hill Country ~ Candle and Soap Silicone Molds. I create silicone molds for candle and soap makers. I still make candles for friends, family, craft shows and yes I do test candle and meltie that I make. =)

Sounds like candle making is really relaxing and therapeutic for you! That’s how I feel about crocheting – well, and reading, too – but, ‘nothing’ comes of that. LOL
It would be awesome if you had a pic of one of those ‘early’ candles and you put it next to a pic of a current one – a ‘before and after’ thing.
Whenever I think of candle making, I’m immediately reminded of Jan from ‘The Office’ and her candle business haha.
Your style of candle making sounds more therapeutic and inspiring. I agree with LisaMarieMary and think a “Before and After” display would send a really vibrant message.
I wish I could give you a before pic. I couldn’t find any anywhere. I do have after pics of my candles. I will have to post them.
I am glad you guys enjoyed the read.

Yeah! I have been getting ready for a craft show party that I am hosting. Even though I am a bit stressed just making candles and the fragrance oils that I am using are making it so much fun.
