Hi, I’m Karen from Winding Threads. Do you have a childhood memory that includes cutting out and decorating sugar or gingerbread cookies with a loved one. Perhaps you remember decorating the tree or making a craft. It is a wonderful tradition to pass down to your own children or grandchildren. I came across a cute mitten ornament that was simple to make and thought I’d share it. If you are looking for an easy project, this is the one!
Materials needed include:
Thick felt: red, white, green (any color), I used sparkly felt; marking pencil; scissors; buttons; embroidery thread in different colors; sewing thread; thin wire; beads; needle nosed pliers
Directions:
1. Make a mitten pattern from a piece of cereal box weight cardboard.
2. Using a pencil or other marking tool such as chalk, draw the mitten pattern onto a piece of felt. Cut two mittens of each color.
3. Using sewing thread, sew embellishments (buttons or anything you like) onto one mitten.
4. Put front mitten together with back mitten. Use embroidery thread and join the two.
5. String beads onto an eight inch piece of wire. (Kids love this part!)
6. Insert ends of wire into the felt at the top of the mitten. (Pliers help here.)
Now you have a mitten! You can decorate your tree with it or use it to beautify a wrapped package. Use it as a favor at your Christmas dinner table.
Have fun crafting!

I am going to have to make these this year! I think they would be fun as gift card holders or for hiding other little treats.
