Thank you for coming back to visit us again! Have you been to our main site, Stitching the Night Away to check out our free cross stitch patterns and cross stitch supplies?
In today’s stressful times, we all need something to do that we enjoy. It helps take our minds off of our troubles and focus on something more pleasant. Crafting is an excellent hobby choice, but there are lots of different crafts to choose from. How do you know which one is right for you?
Most hobbyists are not born with a burning desire to pursue their chosen crafts. They may have acquired their hobbies from someone close to them, or they could have gone through a lot of trial and error before they found something they liked. Here are some tips to help you find a hobby you can call your own.
* Think back to your childhood. Were there any creative pursuits that you enjoyed or excelled at then? If so, why not give them another try?
* Consider the things you buy the most. Do you follow all the latest fashion trends? Consider trying knitting or sewing
. Do you love scented candles? Maybe you could make your own. Do you love to adorn your walls with fine art? Try painting.
* Take a look around at your local craft store. Browse pattern books and project kits and see if anything strikes your fancy. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never attempted the craft or don’t know anybody who does it. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
* See if your local community college offers any craft courses that interest you. The tuition and fees are usually quite reasonable, and you’ll learn from someone who really knows what he’s doing.
* Ask friends and family whose interests are similar to yours for crafting suggestions. If you are intrigued by one of their hobbies, perhaps they can help you get started.
When choosing a hobby, finding something you enjoy is very important. But there are also some other factors to consider. These include:
* How much will the hobby cost? Will it put a strain on your budget? If expensive equipment is required, can you rent it or use someone else’s?
* Do you have the space to practice this hobby? You’ll need a place to store your supplies and a workspace. Space requirements vary significantly depending on the craft, so don’t just assume that you’ll be able to make room.
* Do you have sufficient time to dedicate to this hobby? You can work around your schedule in most cases, but will the time you can allocate to it allow you to get your projects done as quickly as you would like? If not, you may have trouble sticking with it.
Finding the right craft could happen right away, or it could take months of trying different things. But once you find something that makes you happy, you’ll be glad you took the time to look. Crafting gives you a sense of accomplishment, not to mention lots of nice stuff to keep or give as gifts!
Take a few minutes to re-evaluate your space and supply list before you make those final purchases. Sometimes what we think we have space for and what we actually have space for are two very different things.

I’ve just started knitting again, after 30 years. It’s amazing. For the first hour, I sat there with the needles in my hands, and could not remember how to knit. But suddenly, it just clicked, and I remembered the motions. I just finished knitting a scarf.

these are all great suggestions! it was easiest for me to go to a craft store and see what inspired me. my craftiness comes in waves. i can’t force myself to get a hobby. i just have to go with the flow, in the moment!
Ah… another suggestion- if you’re starting a new hobby, don’t spend a TON of money at the outset until you’ve decided that you really like it. Anyone who has hobbies usually has a bunch of discarded hobbies in their background- wait to invest a bunch of money until you’re sure it’s what you want to do.
Also, I’ve found that taking a Community College class is frequently a great way to try out a hobby- it’s great to actually learn the RIGHT way to do something from the beginning, instead of stumbling around being discouraged when you first start out.
Knitting is an excellent hobby, it is not only for old women!
If your interested in finding a hobby you will love this site. All it is, is a site for other people who have a hobby, and talk about it in the forum. By going to a site like this it will allow you to look at some of the hobbies that others have, and can give you ideas as to what kind of a hobby might interest you. I would check them out. The site is easy to use, and the articles on there are clean. The site is family oriented, and there is nothing on there that would be vulger or bad in the eyes of children.
If you’re looking for a good hobby site, I encourage you to try us out.
Thank you for your time.
