Online Craft Club ~ jacket repair!

The great thing about Online Craft Club is that when Friday rolls around and I haven’t crafted anything I remember that I need to stop and take some time for myself and be creative. Well, I did get the sewing box out this weekend, but there was no actual sewing done. There was however some repairing. Ethan’s jacket had a hefty sized hole in the arm that needed mended.
Ethan likes to climb trees and fences and anything else he can find to climb when he’s outside. And his sleeve got caught and snagged and well, then there was a hole. I had some Disney iron-on patch that was the right colors to match his jacket and since I bought these big ole’ iron on patches with Ethan in mind it’s only fair that I use them to mend his jacket. I cut out a Mickey square and rounded three of the corners off. The hole in the sleeve goes the whole way through the jacket so I stuck a piece of thick cardboard in the sleeve so that I wouldn’t glue the sleeve to itself!
Then I took the cardboard out and turned the sleeve inside out. And I got out some plain iron patches. The kind you can find in the grocery store notions section for every day patching. I cut one in half, I guess it’s about 2.5 inches big or so. Significantly bigger than the patch on the outside. But I figured better safe than sorry since I know how rough he is on his jacket and how many bazillion times it’s going to get washed.
And there you have it, Ethan’s mended jacket sleeve. Not exactly the prettiest or the most crafty thing ever, but it’s what I managed to do this week! I had some gray embroidery thread ready and was going to hand stitch around the edges like an appliqué, but I ended up just leaving it raw edged. And now that I took care of that so he’ll have it for tomorrow I’m going to go take some Nyquil and fall onto my pillow.
