2008Advantages to Stitching on Aida or Stamped fabric vs. Linen or Evenweave
Filed Under (Misc Happens) by Loretta on 19-09-2008
The biggest advantage to stitching on Aida or Stamped fabric, for me at least, is that I don’t need my magnifiers to do so! I’m not even 30 years old yet and I’ve needed bifocals for the past five or six years now. However, because I work on a computer all day and have my monitored placed just right and my eye doctor didn’t want me leaning my head all funny all the time to work he recommended having two pairs of glasses instead of having the bifocal put into my prescription.
So, I’ve got my regular glasses that I wear when I’m working, watching television, at the movies, trying to see signs along the road, etc… and I’ve got my magnifiers that I wear when I’m stitching and reading. Basically, they’re just the cute little reader glasses that you can pick up at just about any drugstore.
If I’m stiching on aida fabric the holes are gigantic compared to the soft evenweaves that I usually use, and actually prefer for my finished pieces. So, sometimes it’s a nice break for my eyes. And lately, I’ve been stitching so baby bibs and blankets as gifts and found that I don’t need my magnifiers for the nice big X’s on a stamped design either.
The benefit here is that I can watch a movie and stitch at the same time with these kind of pieces. Whereas, with the evenweave, I need my magnifier glasses and watching TV with those on just doesn’t work. Of course, the only time I get to stitch anymore is in the evenings when I’m watching a movie or something with the hubby, so I’m sure you can guess what kind of pieces I’ve been working on more. My poor neglected WIP pile is just screaming at me from the stash corner these days.

I think the reading glasses I see in the stores are darling. They make them in such cute designs!
And it’s good to know that I’m not the only one with a neglected WIP pile. I think we get caught up in thinking that others are so much more organized than we are, or more motivated, etc. I just so often feel like I can’t catch up with my life!
You sound like me, I’m always working on something while I’m sitting in front of the tv. And these days it had better be big and easy to see! LOL
I’m getting to the point where i need something else while i’m sewing. I cannot for the life of me see the eye of the needle. LOL. I have glasses i use to drive with and watch TV too.

I primarily sew when watching TV or a movie, but I thought I had thought that up on my own, lol guess not.

I use to sew in front of the TV too, but then the needle just became invisible for me. Now the books occupy my attention, but the sewing is still my big love.
