Is antiquing a craft?

I undecided about this antiquing question. Is it a craft? It’s more like shopping, you know? Is shopping a craft? Even if you’re finding antique furniture at yard sales, hidden treasures tucked away inside old luggage sets at estate auctions, or surfing ebay to find just the right matching statuette to fit into a set, it’s more of a skill, or hobby, than an actual craft. Hobby, yes it definitely falls under hobby. That’s my final answer … I think.
Now if you taking something new and antiquing that item, then that is a craft. Because you are creating it, and making it look old, it’s not actually old. Did that make sense?

I would definately say it is. I love that antique road show too. I have a very good friend that is and antiquing fanatic and she jsut loves it. Personally I am more or a gardening nut but I love to cross stitch!
Antiquing is shopping for and collecting antiques. Don’t really see that as a craft as the only things being made is the discovery of the item and the sale. Hobby seems to fit though.
Antiquing as it pertains to making something new, look old, would be a craft.
Buying something old and refurbishing it would be a craft in whatever medium the something is made with. i.e. Woodworking, textiles, painting, etc.
But simply hunting and buying old stuff wouldn’t be a craft in my book.
If decorating is crafty/artistic, then I think antiquing can be. I like cheapie antiquing, thrift and year sales for stuff to use for crafts, so when I’m doing the shopping I’m thinking “craft” and creative
yeah i agree. I think the only thing that would actually count as a craft is what you said. taking antique things and fixing them or taking things and making them look antique. Personally I love finding antique things in bad shape and restoring them.
