Caterpillars Creations Candles

Filed Under (Craft Business, Misc Happens) by Loretta on 10-09-2007

A bit of a different site review today. Not a blog or a stitchy shop, but a candle shop. I know that when I working on my projects or even just relaxing with the family I need the room to be “cozy” feeling and usually that means there is at least one candle lit somewhere. And I like things to smell good and that leads to me buying all sorts of candles!
caterpillars creations soy candles
Caterpillars Creations soy candles are made with the finest quality ingredients to give you a great scent throw and no sooty residue. Not all soy candles are equal, if the ingredients aren’t good then your candle will not be good, the scent will fade away, and the soy will turn funny colors in the jar if not mixed and poured properly.

You’ll find all shapes and sizes at Caterpillars Candles from melts and tea lights to apothecary jars and pillars, all made from the best natural ingredients. You can opt for dye free candles as well for a natural look and still enjoy your favorite scents. You can even mix and match colors and scent choices for the perfect candle for every room in your house.

For those of you in the craft business looking to expand Caterpillar Creations also offers a nice wholesale soy candles program and private labeling options for those that are interested in selling candles to add to your income.

get something off your chest … and win a cute mohair bear!

Filed Under (Contest & More) by Loretta on 10-09-2007

First, I’ll tell you about the cute bear. His name happens to be Albert and he is totally adorable. He was made by Jeaux over at Fickle Food. An interesting thing about Jeaux, she restores antique dolls and teddy bears and she also makes these adorable antique like bears. And she’s holding a contest to win this cute little guy. Please be aware that this is not made to be played with really so it’s not toddler safe. Bits and pieces might come off if chewed on, the threads are loose etc … it is made like a true antique bear! But he would look quite cheerful on your desk or sitting on your stitching chair.

Part of the contest is to blog about something that has recently disillusioned you, annoyed you, drove you just plain bonkers etc. Wow, do I have plenty of those things. I generally try to not get annoyed, but it always hard as there seem to be so many annoying people in the world! LOL ~ Seriously. Let’s see I’ll just stick with this weekend. This weekend the most annoying thing I think I encountered was inconsiderate drivers that don’t look before merging into traffic. And I don’t even drive!!! Virginia is full of stupid drivers, I think its because no one here is from here so they are all used to driving in other places…. does that make any sense at all? And that’s the other thing that’s annoying me lately, I don’t drive. I really don’t want to drive. People are always nagging me to drive. Why is it so wrong that I don’t drive? It’s not a life requirement. There are buses, taxi cabs, and believe it or not your feet to get you places. And why do people find it necessary to nag me about not driving? Gees, it’s worse than the people that knock on your door to give you religious pamphlets. I’d rather talk to the religion pusher people, at least they don’t want me to drive. *sigh* Okay, maybe not really because the religion pusher people don’t like my thoughts and they get frustrated with me if I try to engage them in an actual conversation that doesn’t just nod and agree with everything they have to say. But, that’s another topic for another day on another blog somewhere in space.

finding the time to be creative

Filed Under (Misc Happens) by Loretta on 09-09-2007

This is something I have had to deal with a lot recently. I have hardly created or crafted anything in the last year. It makes me a little sad so I am making a bit of an effort to spend more time doing these things. But I often find myself sitting here at the end of the day before bed, a time that used to be reserved for me to stitch for an hour or so, saying to myself “Do I really have time to stitch?”

And I know I’m not alone in feeling this way. There’s work to be done, the laundry needs folded, the dishes are so overflowing that you can’t get to the kitchen faucets, the floor needs vacuuming, and the food needs preparing. There’s just so much to do. Then I realized that no matter what I do there is always so much to do! I work every day. Brian works 6 days a week. The kids go to school. The dog and cat lack the opposable thumbs needed to help out around the house. No matter what I do with my one hour of time for myself before I head to bed, there will always be more to be done! So, darnit I should enjoy my one hour for me.

fast food fridge magnets

Filed Under (Kids Crafting) by Loretta on 09-09-2007

fast food magnetsWell, to make up for my lack of craftiness to share on Friday for the craft club, I present you with the magnets my kids made today. There are only three, Dylan was at his friends house this afternoon so he didn’t make any yet. I still have plenty of supplies for making more though. And I discovered we are in need of glue. All that glue I bought for school and I totally forgot to buy some extra for at home. To the dollar store I will go!

In the meantime I will be hunting through unpacked boxes this week to find some fabric to sew with and finally break in that sewing machine Brian bought me for Christmas. Yes, it is still unused. LOL But, first I’ve got to put away some laundry and unpack the remainder of luggage that is sitting in my stairway from our recent trip to Pennsylvania. Yes, I still have things to unpack, yes I’m a total slacker about everything.

National Sewing Month

Filed Under (Sewing) by Loretta on 09-09-2007

That’s right it’s September again. I bet you thought I had forgotten hadn’t you? No, I haven’t forgotten. I was hoping to have found my box of fabric in time to share some sewing with you for the Online Craft Club but I was not. I will find it all and get some sewing done this month in honor of the event though I swear I will.

So, what can you sew during national sewing month. If you don’t know how to sew yet now is the best time to learn. Pick up some fabric and just dive right in, or take a class at your local craft and fabric shop. Sew up a new hair scarf, or an apron, or a tote bag!! Be bold and go for a quilt as your first project ever. Fabric is like the paint for a sewing artist, you can make it into whatever you want.

If you enjoy what you’ve learned or you’re already an avid sewing artist then make the leap and join your local chapter of the American Sewing Guild. Whatever you decide to do, have fun and enjoy your sewing time! It can be a wonderful hobby and you might just find yourself with a pile of fabric and sewing dreams.

First Order ships for $2.95

See what happens when you take a few minutes to brainstorm on instant messenger. make a fun painting project

Filed Under (Kids Crafting, General Crafts) by Loretta on 06-09-2007

unfinished wood stool projectThe kids have just headed back to school. It can be a stressful time for them, and you. Now is a good time to set up a project that’s fun for them and for you. Head out to your local craft store, I know Michael’s Crafts has the supplies but you can probably pick them up at other places too and even the dreaded yucky Wal-Mart place will have most of what you need! Look for the unfinished wood section, you’ll find bar stools, step stools, nightstands, boxes, shelves and all sorts of things that are ready for you to transform!

Let them pick out what they want to make, a stool for in their room, a little shelf to put their books on, a nightstand to have by their bed, a step stool for reaching the medicine cabinet. All are great choices. If you don’t have some primary colored paints already, pick those up and grab a small can of protective sealant. In that same aisle you’ll probably also find some wood cut outs and embellishments to use to make it fun! Other embellishment options include ribbon, and fabric! You could wrap ribbon around the legs of a stool, or make it padded by adding fabric and batting. Your imagination is the limit.

portable or not portable?

Filed Under (General Crafts) by Loretta on 06-09-2007

Craft stuff overflowing in your house? Be honest now. I’m sure there are gizmos and gadgets laying around on your desk or maybe even your nightstand. There are as many ways to create craft tool storage as there are to make a mess with it though. You can grab a portable rolling cart like this one. Which is handy if you like to go to craft groups every now and then, just take it all with you! It’s roomy for all your cutting and assembling tools as well as all your bits and pieces of whatever it is you like to make!

What Happened - Heritage Stitchcraft

Filed Under (Favorite Chart of the Week) by Loretta on 05-09-2007

This adorable cross stitch pattern caught my eye today, and it just totally fits the kind of day I was having today. This cute little guy is from Heritage StitchCraft and he is just summing up a simple little truth. “Inside every older person is a young one wondering what happened.” We all have days where we get that what happened feeling!

So, if you are having one of those days and you want to stitch this pattern I strongly encourage you to visit your LNS (local needlework shop) and ask for What Happened by Heritage StitchCraft … or check your favorite ONS (online needlework shop!) and ask them the same. If they don’t have any Heritage StitchCraft you could suggest or ask if they can order the charts you’d like to have. Remember, both designers and needlework shops need your support to stay in business and bring us these creations.

Happy stitches!

Save Our Homes Portability Petition

Filed Under (Charity & Crafting) by Loretta on 02-09-2007

Something a little bit different to talk about today. We have reviewed several different charities and pointed out some current events in the past. This is one of those times. This petition is for a citizen’s initiative in order to provide “Portability of the Save Our Homes Assessment Cap.” Miami real estate may never be the same again. If you are so inclined stop by and view and sign the petition. If not that’s okay too!
