recent framing

Filed Under (Misc Happens) by Loretta on 10-07-2007

canvas on demand of the boys with eeyoreOkay, so it’s not a cross stitch framing. But I wanted to share the picture anyhow. I just had this photo enlargement done and went ahead and it framed before it was sent to me. Normally I’d just frame it myself, but this is on a canvas, it’s not just a paper print. I figured since I was having them stretch it I might as well let them frame it too. As you probably guessed the picture is from our Florida vacation last summer, the kids having brunch with the characters. I haven’t quite found a place to hang it … or anything else … yet.

about the time for fairs and competitions

Filed Under (Craft Business) by Loretta on 10-07-2007

We’ve talked about entering your cross stitch in competitions before. Summer is frequently a time when there are a lot of fairs and exhibits going up, an opportunity to display your work and enter it in contests. Sometimes county fairs can draw huge crowds, coming in from not only local but out of town and out of state visitors just to check out the exhibits. It’s like the world series for crafters and local small businesses! If you’ve ever been to Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania you know exactly what I mean. By the way, if you have been there and you’re going this year give me a shout and I’ll meet you there!

Tie Dye kits for summer crafting!

Filed Under (General Crafts) by Loretta on 10-07-2007

Tie Dye Kits- Many Styles
This particular Tie Dye Kit from Joann’s Online will dye approximately 2-8 large shirts depending on darkness of color and size of the shirts. Colors come out their brightest on natural fibers like cotton and rayon, but can still be used on cotton/polyester blend fabrics. Great for clothes like shirts, socks, hats, bags or home decor items, like pillows and cushion covers. These kits contain: coordinating dyes in reusable bottles, soda ash fixer, latex gloves and rubber bands. Instructions for 12 different projects are also included to give you some inspiration on what to create with the dyes. You could even grab some scrap pieces of white aida or evenweave and give that a dye job too *wink wink* It’s not summer until you’ve tie dyed something!

house buying woes turned into lessons learned

Filed Under (Misc Happens) by Loretta on 10-07-2007

Even though we ended up not being able to buy a house because of our credit score, it was definitely a learning experience. I learned about having a realtor and what the benefits were. I also learned a lot about the piles of paperwork that get put in front of you when you are trying to buy a house, the realtor, the mortgage company or bank, the sellers, the state, the insurance company, everyone has some stupid form they need filled out and signed on the dotted line.

In the end I am more than pleased with where we ended up moving to. Even if it is a rental, it’s a really nice rental and a lot nicer and safer than the place we were living previously. Thank goodness for that. It’s amazing how just the change in scenery has greatly improved everyone’s stress level and sense of well being.

tagged for the 8 facts/habits meme

Filed Under (Misc Happens) by Loretta on 10-07-2007

Angela over at Angela’s Gift Nook tagged me this morning for this meme and I complied since I’m sitting here working on arranging the office and trying to get some stitching done before I start snapping pictures of these pieces I want to show everyone.

Here are the rules:
A. Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves.

B. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed.

C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

So, here we go. This should be easy enough.

1. I’m a hair twirler. I twirl my hair all the time, and I don’t even realize I’m doing it until someone says something to me or I twist it up so tight that I finally notice.

2. I do obsessively odd things to my hair when I am frustrated, stressed out, annoyed, nervous. My best friend would say “Loretta, you have a million of those little braids in your hair, what’s the matter?”

3. I can’t have fingernails. I suck at having fingernails :( I was a nail biter all my life and even if I don’t bite them I end up cutting them off, tearing them, breaking them, or something. I had them to a point earlier this year where I could file them, shape them, polish them and everything. Eventually they annoyed me in some way and I ended up cutting them off.

4. I can’t tie shoes the “bunny ear way” ~ my 9 year old ties his shoes this way. He sure as heck didn’t learn it from me because I can’t do it LOL

5. I hate answering the phone. I blame years of working in the telemarketing industry for this.

6. I quit smoking over a year ago, but I still “crave” cigarettes on a daily basis.

7. I get excited when packages come in the mail! I like bubble wrap.

8. I can’t style my hair … I suck at being a girl.

cross stitch for rehab?

Filed Under (Misc Happens) by Loretta on 08-07-2007

What do you think? You know they always try to get patients at drug rehabs involved in crafts and creative projects to help ease the withdraw. How about cross stitch lessons? Something constructive to do with their time at the facility, you know? I’m sure there’s loads of downtime that can lead to wandering thoughts, craft supplies being readily available might be a nice change. Maybe a quilting group, or a knitting and crochet group too!

Self Portrait Sunday

Filed Under (Self Portrait Sunday) by Loretta on 08-07-2007

SPS 7/8/07 with LucasI’ve been posting these on my personal blog and thought I’d mix a few in here too. Self portrait Sunday is a meme where you take a photograph of yourself each Sunday and post it and share with the other players in the meme. This morning I snapped a picture in my freshly unpacked office. Me and my little 9 year old helper, Lucas. No paternity test needed for this one, he’s got my freckles and his dad’s smile for sure.

finally moved

Filed Under (Misc Happens) by Loretta on 08-07-2007

We are finally moved and I am currently very behind on catching up on my emails and message board approvals. I apologize if you’re waiting to hear from me and haven’t yet. I promise to get through the massive email pile this week and contact everyone.

Moving has been a really great experience, how often can someone say that? And honestly things are much better in this place than the previous place. I’ve got all my stitching stuff in the office here near the computer and I once I get it all unpacked I have some pictures that I’d like to share with you all.
