How do you secure your thread when you begin a new one? Specifically, do you or have you ever used a waste knot?

I rarely use a waste knot unless it’s for a specialty stitch that really, really requires using it. When I’m starting off my thread it just really depends on where I am in the piece and what kind of mood I’m in -lol- I’ll use a loop start, a pin head stitch, or I’ll just hold the tail back to weave under the next couple stitches. I like pin head stitch if I’m stitching 1 over 2 the most. I don’t know why single strand stitching always wants to come loose on me, but that pin head stitch won’t let it fly away!
